Sedation Patient
Dr. Nugent has several levels of dental sedation to meet your needs.
First before performing any dental treatment that is potentially uncomfortable, you will be given a topical anesthetic (numbing jelly) prior to local anesthetic to prevent pain.
We have Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) available in all our treatment rooms. Laughing gas is a wonderful drug as it makes people feel relaxed and happy. Then once the dental procedure is over you breath 100% Oxygen and the effects of the Nitrous Oxide Gas is gone.
For Dental Patients that have a higher anxiety level we offer oral sedation:
Oral Sedation is a pill that is given about one hour prior to your appointment. Patients having oral sedation are deeply relaxed and often have no memory of the treatment. The oral sedation combined with Nitrous Oxide is very effective in relaxing and calming even the most fearful patients. In fact, most patients report that they were asleep during the entire procedure.
Will I be unconscious?
No, you will be in a deeply relaxed state, and you will be responsive. However, most patients say that they slept right through the dental procedure.
Will I be monitored?
Yes, one of our team is always with you. Dr. Nugent uses an advanced monitoring computer to record and watch your vital signs. You are never alone.
Will someone need to accompany me and drive me home?
No, if you only utilize the Laughing Gas. Yes, if you do the oral sedation.
